General Instructions for Off-Campus Usenet Access
General InstructionsThis document attempts to give information about configuring clients to use the AUS which applies to all usenet client software. As a result it lacks any step by step detail. Please consult the documentation for your software in order to fill in any information not supplied here. You may use any usenet client with the AUS as long as it supports both authentication and SSL. Your client will need to connect to port 563 (the standard port for SSL encrypted NNTP) on the server authnews.berkeley.edu. The username and password used by the AUS for authentication is your CalNet ID and passphrase. If your usenet client does not support SSL, you may use a SSL wrapper program to encrypt your session. SSL support is required to protect your CalNet ID and passphrase. Send comments to usenet@agate.berkeley.edu. [Main | Pilot Status | MacOS | Un*x | Windows | AUS FAQ]
