Home IP: What to do if You Have Problems

Here's what to do in case you have problems while trying to use the modems:

  • Problems Setting Up or Finding Client Software
  • Forgotten Home IP Accounts
  • How to Change your Home IP Password
  • Visiting Faculty with no Staff ID
  • Home IP Account Creation Software Problems
  • Modem Problems
  • Problems with a Home IP User

  • Problems setting up or finding client software

The Workstation Support Services distributes client software for the various workstation platforms. The distributions come preconfigured for the Home IP service, and have installation instructions. We recommend using them. Check their web site for information about where to obtain or download the software.

    Forgotten Home IP Accounts

To discover a forgotten Home IP account, and its associated name, just try creating a new one. If one already exists, an error message will be displayed listing the existing account name.

How to Change your Home IP Password

The Home IP sign-up page will also let you change your Home IP password. You'll need to log in using your CalNet ID and passwphrase.

Visiting Faculty with no Staff ID

Visiting Faculty are eligible for Home IP accounts. Visiting faculty should contact the hosting department's Human Resources/Personnel agent to obtain an affiliate ID. The affiliate ID (CalNet ID) can be used to access the campus modems, as well as other campus services.

Problems with the Home IP Account Creation Software

If you encounter problems trying to use the Home IP Account Creation, Maintenance and Info menu system, please describe the problem, noting any error messages, and send mail to accounts@berkeley.edu. For all other problems, please open a trouble ticket (see Modem Problems.

plus anything else you think might help.
