Home IP: What to do if You Have Problems
Here's what to do in case you have problems while trying to use
the modems:

Problems setting up or finding client software

The
Workstation Support Services
distributes client software for the various workstation platforms.
The distributions come preconfigured for the Home IP service, and
have installation instructions. We recommend using them. Check
their web site for information about where to obtain or download the
software.

Forgotten Home IP Accounts
-
To discover a forgotten Home IP account, and its associated name,
just
try creating a new one.
If one already exists, an error message
will be displayed listing the existing account name.

How to Change your Home IP Password

The
Home IP sign-up
page will also let you change your Home IP password. You'll need to
log in using your CalNet ID and passwphrase.

Visiting Faculty with no Staff ID
-
Visiting Faculty are eligible for Home IP accounts.
Visiting faculty should contact the hosting department's Human
Resources/Personnel agent to obtain an affiliate ID.
The affiliate ID (CalNet ID) can be used to access the campus modems,
as well as other campus services.

Problems with the Home IP Account Creation Software

If you encounter problems trying to use the Home IP Account Creation,
Maintenance and Info menu system, please describe the problem, noting
any error messages, and send mail to
accounts@berkeley.edu. For all other problems, please
open a trouble ticket (see Modem Problems.

Modem Problems

If you get a bad phone line, encounter a modem that just rings and
rings, or encounter something broken about the modem
server, please contact the IST Trouble Desk. They can be
reached at (510) 642-4920 or by mail at trouble@berkeley.edu. Please
give them this information (if applicable):
- type of computer you are using
- type of modem you are using, does it do v.32bis/v.42bis/v.90?
- speed of your connection from your computer to your modem.
- time you experienced the problem.
plus anything else you think might help.
