Home IP Appropriate Use Policy

Home IP accounts are available to University of California at Berkeley students, faculty and staff for establishing a personal, connection to the Berkeley Campus Network through a personal modem.

Use of these accounts is governed by the UC Berkeley Computer Use Policy. Creating a Home IP account implies that you have read this policy and agree to its terms and conditions.

In addition to the general terms of the Computer Use Policy, a Home IP account is made available to you for your personal use only. It is not to be shared with others. You are liable for any misuse of this account if you allow others to use it.

A Home IP account may not be used to conduct any commercial or for-profit activity. A Home IP account may not be used to engage in any activity that could be considered sexual harassment.

The Home IP modems are a shared resource. They are shared between other Home IP users, and regular dialup users. The Home IP service is provided to give you only "temporary" access to network services.

You should terminate your account connection if you do not intend to use it for an extended period of time, such as more than a half hour. You should be in front of your Home IP host, using it, when the connection is active.

There is a one hour idle timer. Attempting to thwart it is grounds for the termination of your account.

The Home IP service is not to be used for announced or advertised services, such as software, information servers, or to provide remote access to your Home IP host from campus or the Internet by you or others.

Please be a conscientious user.
