Installation of Network Connections

To request CNS network connection service, (to add new data connections, or to change, move or delete any services), submit an order through the CNS Shopping Cart (http://sagebrush.berkeley.edu/cgi-bin/ws515/sc.r).

Please plan well in advance of the date you require service. To discuss any connection service, or your particular requirements, call CNS at 642-8080 or send email to ccu@socrates.berkeley.edu. To check on the status of an existing order, you can use the online CNS Request Form Query.

After CNS has installed your connection to the campus network, your computer may need additional networking software and hardware to make use of this connection. You can obtain the software you need - in many cases, at no cost - and assistance with installing and using it from the Workstation Software Support Group (WSSG). You can contact WSSG at 642-8899, or via email at drmicro@socrates.berkeley.edu.

WSSG can also advise you regarding any additional hardware that your computer might need. For instance, in some cases, you might need to install an Ethernet adapter - a printed circuit board that plugs into a slot inside your computer. In other cases, you might need to purchase an external box - a Media Adapter Unit (MAU) that plugs into the built-in Ethernet port on your computer and allows it to connect to 10Base-T Ethernet.

Recharge rates are included in the CNS section of the document Current Campus Recharge Rates for Information Systems and Technology. Updated information available from CCU 2-8080, ccu@socrates.
